A lovely late 19th-century sapphire and split pearl shield ring, this wonderful heirloom piece is centred with a rich royal blue cushion-cut sapphire, surrounded by a halo of luminous split pearls arranged within a shield-shaped setting. Finished with beautifully engraved shoulders, these scrolling decorations add to the ornate character of the piece.

 

There is something particularly enchanting about the combination of sapphire and pearl; the deep, midnight blue of the central stone glowing against the soft, silvery lustre of the pearls, like a night sky strewn with stars.

 

With its heraldic shield form and delicately engraved goldwork, this is a ring full of unmistakable late Victorian charm.
