1872 Victorian Pearl, Emerald & Diamond Double Daisy Ring
This enchanting Victorian ring is beautifully formed as two entwined flowerheads, their luminous seed pearl petals unfolding around a sparkling rose-cut diamond and a vibrant emerald. Gracefully set upon richly detailed shoulders, the design is both delicate and deeply symbolic, capturing the Victorian fascination with the language of flowers.
Throughout the nineteenth century, floral jewellery became a quiet expression of sentiment. Blossoms represented love in full bloom, while entwined flowers spoke of two lives joined together in harmony. Here, the soft lustre of seed pearls evokes dewdrops resting upon fresh morning petals, while the emerald, long associated with hope and renewal, brings a vibrant touch of colour. At its heart, the diamond sparkles like the first rays of sunlight filtering through a summer garden.
This beautiful ring is also illustrated in Rings 1800–1910: A Study of English and Related Designs by Verlaine Davies (Write Designs, 2009), highlighting it as a particularly fine and collectable example of Victorian design. A wonderfully romantic heirloom, capturing the beauty of a garden - and perhaps a love story - forever in bloom.
“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
~ George Eliot
