Rare Georgian Diamond Ring
This exquisite George III diamond ring, dating to circa 1820, is designed as a radiant cluster, its luminous cushion-shaped central diamond weighing approximately 0.70 carats, encircled by a glittering border of smaller cushion-cut diamonds, for a total of approximately 1.2 carats. Each stone is nestled within finely pinched collet settings, their antique facets catching the light with that delightful candlelit fire that only old-cut diamonds can possess.
The cluster rests upon beautifully carved foliate shoulders and a graceful fluted shank, mounted in that traditional combination of silver and gold so beloved during the late Georgian period. There is a remarkable softness to the design; the petals of the cluster seeming almost to bloom from the hand itself. This is truly a testament to the romance and artistry of early 19th century jewellery.
Rarely does one encounter Georgian rings of such beauty and preservation today. This is a jewel that feels deeply connected to the world from which it came; we might easily imagine it glimmering by candlelight in grand ballrooms, adorning a hand at intimate dinner parties of the past, or catching the warmth of the summer sun amidst garden parties and flowering terraces.
Romantic, luminous, and increasingly difficult to find, this is a surviving heirloom from another, grander age - and one that truly deserves to be loved and treasured anew.
“But soft! what light through yonder window breaks?”
~ William Shakespeare
