A beautiful Georgian foil backed amethyst ring, set in precious 9ct yellow gold. The large oval amethyst displays wonderfully rich shades of deep purple, plum and violet, intensified by the traditional foil backing beneath the stone. As the light moves across it, flashes of magenta emerge from its darker depths, giving the stone a wonderfully romantic, almost candlelit quality.


Foil backed gemstones are particularly evocative of Georgian jewellery, created to bring greater depth, colour and luminosity to stones in an age before electric light. There is something wonderfully romantic about imagining this amethyst glowing by candlelight more than two centuries ago.


Elegant, richly coloured and full of old world character, this is a wonderfully romantic survivor from the Georgian era.
