This striking late Victorian ring is a captivating testament to 19th century jewellery design. Crafted in warm 9ct rose-toned gold, at its centre rests a luminous opal. Framing either side of this mystical gem are two deep-red garnets, each nestled in its own elegantly engraved setting. The garnets’ rich, velvety tones offer a striking contrast to the opal’s soft glow, symbolising passion and mystery intertwined.


The geometric, architectural styling of the band, with its stepped shoulders and clean lines, is a nod to the transitional design sensibilities of the late Victorian period, bridging the ornate romanticism of earlier decades with the emerging taste for more modern, structured forms.

 

This ring has hallmarks for Birmingham, 1878. This marks the same year that Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina was published.
