Victorian Aquamarine & Garnet Trefoil Ring

This wonderfully characterful antique trefoil ring is a testament to mid 19th century design,  set with three softly shimmering aquamarines and interspersed with three rich crimson-red garnet cabochons, in an ornate scrolling gold setting. The ring head has later been married to a 22ct gold band, allowing this beautiful early jewel to continue its story into another generation.
 
The combination of pale blue aquamarine and deep wine-red garnet is particularly striking; an unusual pairing of cool and warm colour that gives the ring its wonderfully romantic, almost folkloric character. Aquamarine is often associated with peace and serenity, reminiscent of both the sea and sky, and is also the birthstone of March. Garnets are linked to passion and romance - together they form an heirloom of rich and poetic symbolism. The garnets glow like embers in a fading fire against the crisp pale blue of the aquamarines, the perfect contrast of ice and warmth, restraint and passion...as if the ring itself holds both serenity and desire in the balance.
