1914 Edwardian Diamond Daisy Cluster Ring
£775.00

This charming diamond daisy cluster ring carries the story of a bygone age…

Crafted in 18ct gold and set with old-cut diamonds arranged in a delicate daisy cluster, the ring bears the simple but profoundly moving inscription to the interior of the band: "Wilf to Eva December 23rd 1914."

In 1914, Europe stood on the threshold of the First World War. Lives were changing with bewildering speed; young couples became engaged, married, and separated within months as mobilisation swept across Britain. Against this backdrop, Wilf chose to mark his affection for Eva with a ring. Was it an engagement ring? A gift? A promise made before departure? Did Wilf go away to war? And did he return home to Eva? Were they granted a lifetime together, or was this ring all that remained of their story?

The answers have long since been lost, yet these questions give this heirloom its extraordinary poignancy. More than a century later, these names survive where so much has disappeared. The old-cut diamonds continue to sparkle just as they did when Wilf first placed the ring upon Eva's finger, preserving a fleeting moment of hope and affection from one of history's most uncertain years.

This heirloom is a reminder of those who have come before us, and have loved, and been loved in return. Who have lost, and lived, and wondered what of them, what of their lives and their stories, might last beyond their lifetime.

“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.”
