Suffragette Amethyst Violets Bracelet
An heirloom that whispers of devotion, this early 20th-century Art Nouveau bracelet captures the poetic spirit of its age. Crafted in warm 9ct rose gold, its design flows with natural grace. Softly curving gold ‘leaf’ panels alternate with floral gems, each bloom set with velvety purple amethysts surrounding a lustrous pearl heart. Three main flowers take center stage, while three amethyst ‘buds’ finish the design.
The rich violet hue of these blossom panels recalls the violet flower, which, in the Victorian and Edwardian “language of flowers” held a secret meaning of faithfulness and devotion, and when given as a gift, often carried a message: “I’ll always be true.”
A bracelet not only of beauty but of sentiment, to be worn close against the wrist as a tender promise, and a reminder of affection that endured whether near or far.
Violet flowers were also worn by Suffragettes as emblems of their cause, and posies of violets were gifted upon release from jail as symbols of support and camaraderie. It is entirely plausible that this piece holds a connection to the Suffragette movement, whether worn in solidarity or given as a talisman to commemorate the campaign.
'When you talk to me I smell violets.'
