1948 Vintage Scottish Silver 'Lion' Bangle
£230.00

A beautiful silver hinged bangle by Robert Allison, dated 1948, featuring a central roaring lion to the shield with openwork Celtic motifs to the surround.

Robert Allison was a Scottish silversmith, producing sought-after Celtic-inspired works in the mid-20th century. The intricate design work of this unique item is absolutely charming on the wrist, and inspires a feeling of confidence in its wearer. The lion is a popular symbol for bravery; to have a lionheart is to be able to conquer anything in your path.

Dating to only a few years after WW2, this piece was produced in the postwar period, and hence carries a message of strength and resilience. Sterling silver was not one of the many rationed metals during the war, so much of the jewellery around this era features this charming, timeless metal.

“It is not the strength of the body that counts, but the strength of the spirit.”

 ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
