A charming silver Victorian buckle ring, dating to the year 1881.

 

This quirky piece of history is a magnificent display of craftsmanship. The silver has been carefully worked to form the shape of a realistic buckle around the finger, engraved to the top surface with a pattern of ivy. In historic times, the buckle design was a token of honour worn only by the Order of the Garter, the most senior order of knighthood. The design was highly favoured in the Victorian era, and was strongly associated with loyalty, fidelity, and inner strength.

 

It was also meant to represent the union of two individuals, and so became a popular gift of love. In these times, they were worn mostly by men, but Queen Victoria herself was said to have worn a buckle ring, and the motif has since evolved into a wearable, delightful design for all to enjoy!
