A handsome 18ct gold and onyx initial ring from the late Victorian era.

 

This statement antique was made for the dark academic. It features a black-as-night rectangular onyx panel held in gold V-shaped claws; from the body of the rich black stone emerges an applied ‘E’ in scrolling gold calligraphy, the surface of the letter lightly engraved with a diagonally lined pattern for a touch of gothic elegance.

 

The astrological symbols of Scorpio, Capricorn, and Leo are all associated with this beautiful, dark gem, which has attracted myth and legend for centuries. Many famous female authors of the Victorian era featured an ‘E’ initial; Emily Dickinson, Mary Ann Evans (George Eliot), Elizabeth Gaskell, and Emily Brontë (Ellis Bell), to name a few.
