Edwardian Sapphire & Pearl Lavalier Necklace
This elegant early 20th century sapphire & split pearl lavalier necklace is the epitome of grace.
Crafted in 15ct gold with an integral chain, this antique piece sits beautifully on the neck with flowing design elements typical of Art Nouveau jewellery, which takes inspiration from the beauty of nature, and floral elements in particular. Two dazzling blue sapphire stones, one of central alignment and a tear-shaped drop to the base of the design catch the light and beautifully complement the lustrous split pearls and delicate, detailed openwork design.
The lavalier design gained popularity around the 1900s is named after Louise Françoise de La Baume Le Blanc, Duchesse de La Vallière (1644-1710), mistress of Louis XIV. It is still highly sought after today for its timeless beauty and wearability.
“Because when you are imagining, you might as well imagine something worth while.”
~ Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
