Antique Rose Cut Diamond Clover Ring

A highly unusual antique diamond clover ring with a platinum setting and 18ct gold band. Featuring seven rose cut diamonds which positively glow under candlelight, this unusual and mysterious ring is formed in an eye-catching design. The delicate band features light twisting as a charismatic design element.

 

There is historical evidence to this piece that it was not made as a ring originally; the top setting design has been fitted onto the band from something else at some point in the past - perhaps part of an antique brooch or pendant. This is quite exciting, as we cannot truly date the diamonds, they may belong to a far earlier time period. The rose cut, which originated in the 1500s, was widely popular during the Georgian and Victorian eras. Like other antique diamond cuts, these diamonds were meticulously hand-cut to sparkle under candlelight. Their large, wide facets were especially designed to perform beautifully in low light conditions.

 

Clovers have captivated our imaginations for centuries and frequently feature in antique jewellery designs in various forms. Traditionally worn to bring their wearers serendipity and good luck, they are fit to be treasured as personal talismans and make the perfect heirloom piece.
