1873 Victorian 'Forget me not' Pinkie Ring
£580.00

A forget-me-not flower takes centre stage in this striking and unusual pinkie ring, hailing from the Victorian era with hallmarks for Birmingham, 1873.

Carved in relief from a semi-precious blue-black hardstone, the floral cameo is both bold and delicate. It is offset to either side by three dainty seed pearls, set into 15ct yellow gold scroll shoulders and a fine rope edging. A dark academia dream.

1873 marks the publishing year of Thomas Hardy’s novels; ‘A Pair of Blue Eyes,’ with ‘Far from the Madding Crowd, released the following year. Forget-me-nots have been used as a symbol of love and remembrance throughout history. In the Victorian language of flowers, this charming motif was used as a way of saying ‘I’ll miss you.’ It is also known to some as the birth flower for September.

"High on the rocks and eternal snows
A delicate, wee blue blossom grows.
Far from all human care and love,
It lifts its face to the skies above
And prays, while fiercely the cold wind blows,
"O God, forget me not!"
